Item Description

The locality at Ruby Mountain doesn't produce any Ruby crystals, but rather fine quality deep red Spessartines. Rarely does one find good examples of Topaz from Ruby Mountain, and this piece is one of the best thumbnails that I've seen from this locally well-known locale. This piece hosts a few fine quality, very gemmy, colorless prismatic crystals of Topaz measuring up to 6 mm tucked into a small vug in Rhyolite. A great piece for a gem crystal collector, a thumbnail collector or anybody who collects Colorado minerals, as these are not easy to obtain these days. This piece comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes mounted in a "Perky" box from Wulff with a label on the bottm that states the piece was collected personally by Wulff. A wonderfully historic and eye-catching specimen of this well known old time material.
