Item Description

Dioptase is known from a few world localities in superb quality specimens, but recently there was a find of new material in the Pool Department of the Congo (Brazzaville). These specimens show great color, with larger sized crystals and EXCELLENT gemminess. This particular specimen is a great oddity for the locality as it features, GEM QUALITY, brilliant, well-formed, hexagonal, very soft smoky colored Quartz crystals with a very pale lilac "Amethystine" hue in areas which are associated with small rich emerald green color Dioptase on th base. The largest Quartz crystal measures 1.7 cm long. Most of the crystals are undamaged, and the fact that they we have a purple shade of Quartz with Dioptase is a big deal. This find was limited to a handful of pieces, and hopefully will produce more SUPERB quality Quartz with Dioptase. This is actually a far cry from more famous Dioptase localities like Tsumeb as we've never seen GEM sparkling Quartz like this from Tsumeb with Dioptase.
