Item Description

A stellar, robust 4.3 cm dodecahedron of beautiful laurel green Fluorite sits proudly atop a matrix mostly comprised of Quartz and Pyrite on this gorgeous, eye-catching, three-dimensional display specimen from the famous Huanzala Mine. Dodecahedrons are RARE from this mine, as most of the crystals are either octahedrons, cubes or modified combinations of the two. The color is certainly rare and odd for the locality as it's honestly doesn't look like any green I've seen from Huanzala. The crystal is one of the largest I've seen from the locality as well (if not the largest), combined with the fact that it's complete all the way around and it perfectly perched on the apex of the specimen. When backlit, the crystal is translucent and the color really glows. The faces are broad and smooth with virtually no damage, I found one tiny "Wilber" with a loupe, but you can barely see it. Overall, the combination of the amazingly large crystal (for the locality) along with the superb aesthetics and gorgeous color combination make this a top notch display specimen of this now elusive material. It's certainly an older specimen, probably dating back to the mid 1970s, and very difficult to find on the market today. The piece comes with a label from noted New York mineral dealer, Larry Conklin, who had it priced at $3,500 originally, and I honestly think it would be more in today's market. If you collect worldwide Fluorites, and you like showy cabinet specimens, this one would make a perfect addition to your collection.
