Item Description

This rare Titanium-bearing member of the Vesuvianite group is only found in a few worldwide localities, and the most desirable specimens are those from the type locality in Russia. This specimen features a predominant, good quality, sharp, euhedral dark blackish-green color prismatic tetragonal crystal measuring 1.6 cm. aesthetically sitting on "Achtaragdite" matrix. Achtaragdite is a discredited species which according to mindat.org is defined as a "Hydrogrossular-chlorite-carbonate pseudomorphs after very probably wadalite or some other hydrogarnet. " The Wiluite crystal is in excellent condition, and this is one of the better small cabinet sized pieces of this material that I have offered in a while. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1273). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
