Item Description

A VERY RARE and colorful combination from this famous Katanga mine and the Kay Robertson Collection # 8433. A few sharp, dark red uncoated and coated trigonal spherocobaltite crystals, to 2 mm, are scattered on the convex coral-like vivid pink crust of either cobaltoan dolomite or cobaltoan calcite. More crystals are embedded on the top of the mound at the crest of the piece. The light olive-green crusts and part of the mound are tiny needles of Kolwezite, a RARE anhydrous Cu-Co carbonate. The Musonoi Mine is the Type Locality. Extremely rare, choice and showy combination material. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
