Rubellite Tourmaline

Tourmalines are beloved by dealers and collectors for their intense colors in various shades. Brazilian has produced some top quality Tourmalines over the years, including some of the finest gem grade Rubellite to come out of any coutnry. Here we have a nice Rubellite Tourmaline with good size and color saturation. The stone is SI in clarity with a rich pink color on one side, and a dark nearly opaque hue on the other side with a "Pear Cabochon" cut. This piece was polished from a rough that was mined approximately 15 years ago. The color is VERY saturated and attractive. Fine Rubellites can retail for up to $500 per carat, but this stone is valued lower due to one obvious inclusions. It should be noted that the Brazilian material seems to have dried up on the market, and good gems with the rich "cranberry" color like this stone are hard to find these days.
