Item Description

RARE old-time "Oakstone" stalactitic baryte is a highly desirable English species found in only two localities in Derbyshire. It is a pseudostalactitic banded variety of crystalline barite, so named for the obvious resemblence to the tree rings of local oak trees. This polished and sawed specimen has exceptional form. Newhaven is just south of the locality. This classic and very fine old-time specimen certainly dates to prior to World War I and could be much older, with the faded old label. From an East Coast collection.
