Item Description

This specimen hosts sharp, lustrous, transparent golden-orange crystals of the rare oxide Microlite on yellowish-green to golden colored Muscovite from the famous Ipe mine in Brazil. These crystals are some of the best quality (despite their small size) Microlite crystals you'll find. A great specimen for one of the less common oxides out there. Please note that Microlite is no longer a valid, species but a group name for various species. This piece could be Fluorcalciomicrolite, but it hasn't been analyzed to be certain. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1957). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
