Item Description

A classic and eye-catching association specimen from the famous Fluorspar producing district in southern Illinois. The Fluorites from this area are some of the most well-known examples of the species from anywhere in the United States, especially when you have crystals with THIS kind of color! The piece shows some of the most intense blue color you will see in a Fluorite from Illinois. It's a true blue color with virtually no green or purple overtones. The largest crystal measures 3.7 cm on edge. The center of the main crystal is incredibly gemmy and would actually yield a superb gemstone, as it's remarkably water-clear. Small accenting scalenohedral Calcites make for a great touch. Hard to find on the market today, now that mining has ceased. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4255). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
