Item Description

A classic Franklinite specimen with modified black crystals on massive Calcite matrix. Franklin is one of the most prolific and renowned localities in the world, and Franklinite is one of the signature species from this area. I realize that the majority of species from Franklin are rather rare and do not lend themselves to excellent display specimens, but I honestly feel that every good worldwide collection should have at least a few specimens from Franklin it, and Franklinite is certainly one of the most characteristic species from this famous historic mining district. As you can see the piece fluoresces beautifully under UV light. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
