Item Description

An unusual specimen in terms of habit from this well-known locality. This piece came to us from the collection of Willard Wulff. There was a single sheet of paper with this piece that said it was from the "Charcas". The paper goes on to say that the piece was acquired from (possibly mined by) Jesus Urias (Chewy / Chuy) and Ted Granillo. It's an attractive display specimen filled with sharp, lustrous, gemmy, scalenohedral / "dogtooth"-shaped crystals of a soft golden color measuring up to 1.7 cm. Minor damage, but attractive overall, and as I said, it's not common to find Calcite in this habit from Charcas. As mentioned, this specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
