Item Description

Aqumarines from the Sawtooth Mountains / Batholith of Idaho are famous for their rich, intense color especially when compared to equal sized crystals from various localities in places like Pakistan or Brazil. I sometimes refere to these crystals are BLUE BERYL instead of Aquamarine, because the color is so saturated, even in smaller sized crystals. These specimens are well-known among collectors, but rarely seen on the market, as the area in which they are found is remote and fairly inhospitable. This specimen was mined in the 1970s by by Geary Murdock who had the most success collecting Idaho Aquas. If you've seen some of the top pieces collected by Murdock, you know these are among the finest crystallized Aquas from any North American locality. This near large cabinet sized display specimen features several rich blue colored hexagonal Aquamarine crystals measusring up to 1.2 cm sitting on cream colored Microcline matrix. The piece is highlighted by groups of semi-metallic Mica (Zinnwaldite - ?). Now it should be noted that many of the Aquas are contacted, but if you look closely, you can see a handful of fine euhedral crystals, a few of which are notably GEMMY! An attractive bigger specimen of this famous and elusive material. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
