Item Description

An incredibly rare specimen of crystallized Sapphirine from the obscure Amethyst Prospect in Custer County, Colorado. This is the first specimen I've seen of this material. It features sharp and well-formed dark blue-green-grey colored monoclinic (pseudohexagonal) crystals of Sapphirine measuring up to about 3 mm in fibrous crystallized Gedrite matrix. I'm not sure how recently these specimens were collected, or if they came from old stock or were buried in an old collection, but if you collect rarities or Colorado minerals, this is a superb opportunity to pick up something which is virtually non-existent on the market. Please note: This is the Magnesium Aluminosilicate Sapphirine, NOT SAPPHIRE and considerably rare in the mineral world by comparison.
