Smoky Quartz "Phantom" (GEM quality) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A classic from this famous Quartz producing area on the California / Nevada border. The piece consists of a single, razor-sharp, very lustrous, GEM quality, light smoky colored prismatic Quartz crystal with a bit of attached Quartz at the base, but the best part of the piece is that you can see a well-defined, slightly darker smoky colored "phantom" at the center of the crystal. Additionally, I can see what appears to be a lesser secondary phantom that seems to be composed some semi-fluid / gas bubble inclusions which is situated closer to the termination. Excellent condition overall, with only a few tiny imperfections near the termination. Good gem quality "phantom" crystals like this are rare in my experience from this locality. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
