Item Description

From the historic mining district in far northwestern Illinois, here we have an attractive cabinet display specimen of Galena from Galena. Sharp, well-formed, silvery-grey colored cuboctahedra of Galena have formed crystal groups which are intergrown with soft metallic golden colored Pyrite (possibly Marcasite) on what appears to be banded semi-radial Sphalerite(?). The largest cluster of Galena crystals measures 3.5 cm across. Very good quality and showy compared to others I've seen from the area. No specific mine given, but good specimens of Galena from Galena are very rare on the market. PLEASE NOTE: This piece is hefty, and will require an additional shipping charge so please keep this in mind when bidding.
