Item Description

This long storied historic U.S. locality has produced some of the world's finest Calcite and Fluorite specimens extant. Despite the fact that there are only a handful of minerals found at the Elmwood mine, some of them are among the most recognizable minerals in the world. This piece is a good sized, very sharp, highly lustrous, rather gemmy, beautiful golden scalenohedron of Calcite. The crystal is twinned, as you can see the reentrant angle on the side of the crystal. The piece looks doubly-terminated, but one end is contacted and not complete. Additionally it has a separation mark on the front where another Calcite once grew, along with a contact on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall. These pieces are well-known classics and some of the finest crystallized Calcite in the world.
