Item Description

From the type locality for this beloved hydrated iron arsenate that dates back over 200 years to 1818! This specimen features gorgeous steel blue radiating groups of sparkling Scorodite crystals nestled into vugs in the host rock matrix. There are a few labels that accompany the piece which mention that there is Pharmacolite on the reverse side, but mindat.org questions the authenticity of the species from this locality. With that said, we've NEVER had a piece of Scorodite from Graul to offer in the auctions, and I don't think I've actually ever seen one in person prior to this specimen. If you collect minerals from the type locality, or important old historic German classics, you CANNOT miss out on this beautiful and impossible to find rarity. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8058). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The piece is accompanied by labels from Cisneros' Mineralogical Research Company along with a great old label from Harvard University that states it was part of the Pearse Collection.
