Item Description

A very attractive and incredibly hard to find MATRIX specimen of Aquamarine from the obscure McGinnis Mine in New Hampshire. This piece features a 5.0 cm Aquamarine aethetically perched on massive slightly smoky Quartz matrix. The crystal is a rarely seen 12-sided Beryl having both first and second order prism faces. The termination is indeed crystallized, though it seems to be a contact-growth against the Quartz in the pocket. The color is a lovely medium greenish-blue, and the crystal actually shows a bit of translucency when backlit. You just don't see New Hampshire Beryls on the market, especially matrix specimens with good aesthetics like this. We had this piece valued at $2,500 in the inventory based upon the quality, rarity on the market and the fact that it's really showy. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
