Item Description

A very old time Calcite specimen (based upon the early collection number) from Sonora, Mexico. Unfortunately we don't have a more specific locality, and I honestly haven't seen a specimen like this from Sonora, so it's hard to say where it came from. The piece features attractive, gemmy, colorless, tabular, 6-sided crystals with a light brown coating of an unknown mineral (perhaps a pocket clay). When backlit, you can see that the crystals are pretty gemmy, and glow with a lovely hue created by the coating on the surface. The Calcites measure up to 2.4 cm across. There are a few contacts here and there, but this is forgivable as this is a interesting specimen that would make a great addition to a Calcite suite or a collection of Mexican minerals. Don't miss out on this unusual and alluring specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#196). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
