Item Description

A very hard to find specimen from the lesser known Oldwick Quarry in New Jersey. Unlike more prodigious localities like the Prospect Park Quarry, Upper New Street Quarry, Lower New Street Quarry and Braens Quarry (which lie in Passaic County), Oldwick lies in Orange Mountain (First Watchung Mountain) which is southwest of the better known mineral specimen producing quarries. Specimens from Oldwick are seldom seen on the market, and this particular piece is the best specimen of Stilbite that we've had to offer in the auctions from this quarry. A predominant radial group of golden "sheaves" of Stilbite measuring 2.7 cm across is associated with an unidentified pinkish mineral, plus a few more Stilbite crystals on basalt matrix. Good condition overall, and a great piece to add to a zeolite suite or a collection of minerals from the New Jersey Trap Rocks. The piece comes with a label from the collection of Robert Batic, a long time collector of New Jersey minerals.
