Item Description

This mine has produced some of the most famous Tourmaline specimens in the world. Most people associate vivid pink and green Tourmalines with the Himalaya Mine. If you collect San Diego County Tourmalines, or even worldwide Tourmalines, or just interesting minerals from the United States, this is a great one for you! The piece features a very lustrous, striated, sharp, translucent, vivid pink color, prismatic crystal of Tourmaline with a soft greenish-white basal termination. The underside of the Tourmaline is not damaged per se, but rather has a partial contact termination. The Tourmaline measures 3.6 cm with and is partially sitting in / on a slight grey colored, sharp, lustrous, translucent Quartz crystal matrix. Minor associated purplish "Lepidolite" (no longer a valid species) Mica, a white "dusting" of Albite and tiny needle-like prisms of baby pink Tourmaline can be seen on the side of the specimen. The piece is notably aesthetic and UN-repaired!! Keep in mind how rare it is to find a MATRIX specimen of Tourmaline from this mine, let alone an UN-REPAIRED matrix specimen. A very cool and colorful display piece from this renowned U.S. locality. Ex Frank M. Levy Collection. Valued at $2,000 in the inventory.
