Item Description

Few people think of Datolite from St. Andreasberg, but they do exist. The species has been known since 1806, and the specimens from this classic locality are distinctive for the specie. This piece features several, very sharp, well-formed, highly lustrous, textbook crystals of Datolite which are wedged between layers of matrix. The crystals are an off-white color (pale yellow) and measure up to 7 mm. They really look beautiful up close. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1012). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A great German classic from the famous locality.
