Item Description

A very hard to find specimen of the rare cyclosilicate Osumilite in the form of tiny golden-brown colored hexagonal crystals which are associated with minor Hematite on volcanic rock matrix. The Osumilite crystals are small (approx 1 mm), but the color is what is unusual as the species is typically a steel-blue color, and not a brownish tone. Minor colorless transparent crystals of Tridymite can be seen as well. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A cool rarity with an unusual color to add to any micro collection or a suite of Italian minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8755). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
