Description:This piece hails from what was the second major gold rush in the United States, which took place in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of Georgia in 1829. This specimen is what is refered to as "Reef" Gold and features small metallic "leaves" or "flakes" of Gold sitting on massive off-white Quartz with brown iron / Limonite coatings in areas. The Gold is small, but if you look closely, you can find it hiding in small crevices in the matrix. There are a few paper triangles glued to the specimen to show where the Gold is located on the specimen, but I'll bet there are a few more tiny spots featuring Gold that can be found. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. A VERY hard to find locality specimen for anybody who collects Gold, native elements or minerals of the southern United States.
