Siderite (botryoidal) with Barite (GEM)

Item Description

An old-time, uncommon and showy combination specimen from historic Baia Sprie (Felsobanya), Romania. The sculptural, mounded piece is composed of unusually botryoidal Siderite (variety Spharosiderite). The tan to brown botryoids are translucent when backlit, and have a soft matte luster. Additionally water-clear, glassy, tabular Barite crystals are a fine complement. Accompanied by an old collection (museum?) label. The piece dates back several decades, and is a superb example of this hard to find material.
