Item Description

This is the ONLY specimen of Sphalerite we've seen from this locality. It is a fine group of sharp, well-formed, lustrous, deep reddish-brown "Ruby Jack" crystals showing a predominant dodecahedral habit free of matrix. Good shape all around, save the bottom where it was removed from the pocket wall. It has a wonderful, showy, eye-catching three-dimensional shape, almost like a Sphalerite "snowman". Valued at $750 for size, quality, color and the fact that they are essentially impossible to obtain. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#2371). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
