Item Description

An outstanding and rich old-time amethyst specimen from this historic old gold mining district in Romania, noted for fine amethyst specimens. Striking sprays of variably-sized, transparent to translucent amethyst crystals, with pretty variable blush-purple color are festooned on the sculptural plate. Two of the fine large crystals reach 2.5 cm. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6430 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the 1971 Ventura show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An important and rare old amethyst in this quality. The old Austrian labels (including the one on the back of the piece), especially the Dr. Lothar Burghardt label really add a sense of history to this fine piece from Siebenburgen. The Anton Berger label, a promiment Austrian dealer, dates from about 1929 to the 1950s.
