Item Description

RARE style and very deceptive old tourmaline from the famed Little Three Mine. The highly lustrous, well-striated parallel-growth crystal has two fantastic, RARE, super steep pyramidal terminations. Most tourmalines from here have flat pinacoidal terminations with few having pyramidal terminations. The faces are both frosted and unfrosted. Interesting chemistry here. DECEPTIVE, in that the crystal looks like a schorl, BUT back lighting reveals reddish-pink elbaite translucence. Hints are visible on the edges. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only two trivial termination edge bruises noted. This most exotic and excellent cutie is from the Kay Robertson Collection # 4257. It was acquired from California dealer Bill Schneider at the Long Beach Show in 1965 and is from OLD finds. A MUST for the California pegmatite or tourmaline collector! A fascinated and RARE 360-degree Little Three Tourmaline. 54.67 carats or nearly 11 grams mass.
