Item Description

Lustrous, tabular, translucent wulfenite prisms, to 1.4 cm, are festooned on the large sculptural matrix on this fine classic from the famous and historic Type Locality. Lead-zinc mining started in the 1500s and this excellent piece is from the last mine to close in the late 1980s. Even the mine level is known and may be an old piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2126 and acquired from Sol Shale. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The piece has an excellent provenance, having been in the collection of Dr. Werner Lieber, prominent German mineral photographer and author. Choice, rich and essentially pristine large Bleiberg wulfenite. It displays well without aid.
