Item Description

A SUPER RARE and rich large old-time combination from the famous Cresson Mine at Cripple Creek. Scattered classic lathes of lustrous calaverite, to 7 mm, a rare gold telluride have tiny gold crystals on them. The large vug in the matrix wedge is filled with VERY RARE dolomite rhombs and a scattering of quartz points. MINDAT lists dolomite for Cripple Creek, but there are no photos in the locality gallery. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5614 and acquired in March, 1969. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). We showed photos to a Colorado expert, who confirmed the dolomite and they said they haven't seen that much dolomite on a Cresson Mine specimen. Rare, perhaps UNIQUE and rich Cripple Creek combination material. Certainly 100 years old or older. A MUST for the Colorado or species collector!!
