Item Description

Mineral specimens are RARE from the Juanita Mine, compared to those from the nearby famed Kelly Mine. This is an exotic, colorful and rare combination. A sculptural jackstraw cluster of translucent, lustrous, reddish-orange, iron oxide-tinted barite blades is dramatically and preferentially peppered with starkly contrasting rosettes of bone-white paper calcite rhombs. Such combinations are VERY RARE from the Kelly Mine and are diagnostic of the Juanita Mine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5543 and acquired at the MSSC Show in 1968. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). RARE, excellent quality 360-degree calcite and barite with only modest bruising from the Juanita Mine. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
