Item Description

Chloanthite (Nickelskutterudite) from the famous Type Locality. Once thought to be a species, it is generally considered to be an arsenic-deficient variety of, or synonym of, nickelskutterudite. Sharp, brilliant silver luster cuboctahedrons, to 1.3 cm, cover this rich and showy mounded miniature. Bubbly secondary chloanthite crystallization on the prism faces adds pizzazz. The noted periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this fine and rich old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 938 and acquired in the 1950s. Her label was lost in the move, but comes with an older label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). Classic old-time material from renowned Schneeberg dating to the 1800s.
