Item Description

This well-known abandoned quarry is famous for soft talc pseudomorphs after hard quartz! These are amazing esoteric mineral specimens that defy logic. How can the softest mineral known totally replace one of the hardest? Pegmatites crossed the deposit, but sharp quartz specimens are very uncommon. This is an impressive and sculptural large upright cluster of partially etched and unetched quartz crystals. The piece is dramatically accented by the 5.7 cm sharply terminated, partially etched crystal perched on the back of the 8.8 cm crystal. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3744 and acquired in Europe in 1964. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). A rare, large and excellent quartz of this variety.
