Item Description

Luscious cranberry-red and vivid pink color distinguishes this dramatic and beautiful trigonal, bi-colored tourmaline from the 2012 finds at the Malkhan pegmatites. The unusually showy and striking, modified pinacoidal termination is a highlight of this gemmy and lustrous crystal. The termination is cranberry-red above the vivid pink body. The striated faces and high luster add much character. Some faces are preferentially lightly frosted/etched. Complete all-around. A back edge is dinged, but is out-of-sight in the primary display view. It GLOWS with rich colors when backlit! 155 grams. See the excellent article about the find in the July/August, 2013 issue of Rocks & Minerals. A very fine larger example from the find. Valued at $2000 for sharpness, rarity and quality.
