Item Description

RARE, old-time lazurite from this less well-known Russian area for lazurite. Blue crusts and seams richly cover all sides of the small cabinet matrix. Lazurite/Lapis Lazuli is no longer considered a separate species, but a variety of Hauyne, a Sodalite Group member. Not very showy, but remains a RARE, OLD, highly representative example fo the species and locale. From an East Coast collection and comes with a century-old faded and water-stained label. This piece dates to the Imperial Russian era, prior to World War I.
