Large Copper w/ Cuprite (unusual locality)

Mineral specimens are fairly uncommon from this old gold-polymetallic mining district, East of Prague. Bubbly botryoidal copper with a cuprite coating forms a dramatic and sculptural large specimen from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection. The district is known for producing copper specimens from both the active mining period and from secondary post-mining copper precipitation. This piece appears to be post-mining, due to the rounded copper form. Regardless, this is an uncommon, impressive and artistic large copper from the locale with multiple display views. It resembles a dragon with a large head in some views. Unusual location, and a big piece! Valued $750-1000
