Item Description

Sculptural and rich vein silver combination ore in quartz from the famous mines at Cobalt. The hefty ore specimen is capped by a 2.5 cm projecting mass of hackly native silver. All sides of the vein have rounded masses of Safflorite, a common Co-Ni-Fe arsenide. The front of the piece has patches of uncommon green Annabergite, a hydrated Ni-arsenate and the nickel analogue of Erythrite. The base and part of one side has been sawed to highlight the ore crystallization. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5779 and acquired from at the San Diego Federation Show in 1969. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A RICH and showy combination ore specimen from the locale. Mass is 565 grams or 1.2 pounds.
