Item Description

Striking, large old-time calcite from the famous mines at Santa Eulalia. A sharp 7.0 cm dogtooth calcite crystal is dramatically impaled into the side of an even larger 9.0 cm crystal. The crystals are covered with two generations of rust-red and brown hematite. The broken faces show that the glassy, translucent crystals are also included with hematite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2123 and acquired from Burminco in January, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Highly unusual looking old-time Mexico calcite. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
