Item Description

The famous 1967 find at the Fairfax Quarry produced the finest US apophyllites and this is a very fine and rich combination small cabinet. An impressive dense cluster of glassy, translucent, colorless, tetragonal crystals, to 1.3 cm, is aesthetically set on starkly contrasting rich mint-green translucent prehnite on the basalt matrix. The piece has a fine provenance, having formerly been in the collection of prominent US field collector, Ed Swoboda. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6171 and acquired from the Shale's in 1970. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Combination specimens of this quality are seldom on the market.
