The Zazafotsy Quarry is well-known for excellent corundum specimens, including ruby and sapphire. A 3.3 cm, translucent, classic pigeons blood-red doubly terminated ruby with satin lustre and rounded terminations is jauntily set on the sawed mounded metamorphic matrix of feldspars and biotite. Modest deep red fluorescence. Ex Rob Sielecki Collection. An exceptional ruby for the locale, as this crystal is LARGE for the locale.
