Item Description

An impresssive, rich and sculptural large fluorite specimen from the famous Hilton Mine. Gemmy and lustrous, rich golden-yellow fluorite cubes to 2.8 cm cover this striking mounded piece. Portions of the glassy crystals are water-clear with other aread being milky translucent. The Hilton Mine was intermittently active from 1824-1919 for galena, witherite and barite. The mine was under lease, but finally abandoned in 1963 (MINDAT). Essentially pristine, except for trivial periphery wear. Purple fluorescence. This is an exceptional large classic from the Hilton. It is over twice the size of a Hilton piece we offered at auction in February, 2017 and was valued at $1500. Fairly valued at $2500-3000. Ex Dr. Stephen Moreton Collection and illustrated in the MINDAT locale Photo Gallery with a September, 2018 photograph.
