Item Description

A classic and sharp scheelite crystal thumbnail from this extinct locale. The textbook whitish-gray tetragonal pseudo-octahedral crystal is moderately translucent, has very glassy/waxy lustre and dramtically etched faces. The attached pyrite is a fine complement. Complete all-around and in excellent shape, with trivial bruising. Part of the back and the base are contacted, but there is very little actual damage. These scheelites were long considered the world's finest, until recently surpassed by the new Chinese finds. Ghostly white fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6570 and acquired from Pala Properties at the 1972 Tucson Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An excellent Tae Hwa Mine scheelite thumbnail.
