Item Description

Classic, old-time sculptural celestine on sulfur from the historic mines at Agrigento. A 3.5 cm corsage of very glassy celestine blades is aesthetically perched atop the 3-dimensional mounded matrix of unusual tinted sulfur crystals. Additional celestine sprays cascading down one side are a super accent to this very artistic two-sided piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5925 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A very fine old-timer as Girgenti was changed to Agrigento in 1927. It displays great from either side without aid.
