Item Description

An outstanding, old-time, 3-generation, 360-degree calcite from Rosiclare. A fantastic, 8.3 cm, rich golden-amber, gemmy, sharply terminated crystal is dramatically accented with two smaller, similar opposing gemmy crystals. Fantastically intergrown on the side and back is a 7.3 cm doubly terminated, lustrous, translucent gray calcite crystal. A third generation of sparkly drusy calcite partially covers a dark purple fluorite section and purple fluorite is embedded on the artistic contact on one side. All four of the large calcites are pristine on this superlative and unique looking multi-generational calcite from the Kay Robertson Collection # 6396. She acquired this piece from the private collection of noted California collectors, Norm and Violet Dawson in Ventura in 1971. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record) and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Very fine OLD-TIME Illinois calcite. Valued at $1250-1500.
