Item Description

A VERY RARE, rich and showy combination pseudomorph from the less well-known Alpine-type deposits of the Gamsberg Area. Cuprotungstite is a rare secondary mineral commonly occurring as the result of scheelite altering in a copper-rich environment. Green Cuprotungstite has completely replaced a sculptural intergrown cluster of very sharp tetragonal scheelite crystals. The impressive large and sharp doubly terminated pseudo is 2.8 cm tall. A 9 mm olive-green epidote crystal on the side of one pseudo is a super and rare accessory. The Shields Flynn label says this is Chlorite after Fluorite. MINDAT does list both species for the Area and they are both very rare from here. We believe this is Cuprotungstite after Scheelite, due to the crystal form and higher specimen weight. A possible unique pseudo rarity from this obscure mine in the Gamsberg Area.
