Item Description

RARE, beautiful and old blue-green scolecite from an obscure Rio Grande do Sul locality. Striking intergrown jackstraw sprays of very glassy, lustrous, translucent prisms form a very sculptural 360-degree specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5049 and acquired in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Old material collected in the early 1960s during construction of a rail line through the basalts. See the interesting MINDAT article about the locality and finds at this link: https://web.archive.org/web/20071007125050/http://www.museumin.ufrgs.br/ingAntas.htm.
