Item Description

Originally claimed in some publications that this material was found in the pegmatite chamber of the Volynski pegmatites of the Ukraine, recent research has shown it to be of biogenic origin, and almost certainly fossilized ancient cyanobacterial mats (Gorlenko, 2000). It is an organic material found during pegmatite mining in the Volynski region of Ukraine as black fibrous aggregates of short, curving interlaced fibres of average diameter 14.7 microns (MINDAT). Irregardless, this is VERY RARE material from this famed beryl (heliodor) and topaz pegmatite producing locale. Ex John Jaszczak and John Saul Collections. Value???
