Item Description

A fascinating and unusual looking old-time combination specimen from the historic tin deposits at Zinnwald, Saxony. Isolated glassy, brown tetragonal brown scheelite crystals strikingly accompanied with purple fluorite cubes and scheelite crystal clusters with fluorites are aesthetically scattered on the sculptural intergrown cluster of included smoky quartz crystals. Patches of muscovite are a typical accessory. The noted bruising has minimal impact to the excellent quality of this piece. Scheelite fluorescence varies from yellow to ghostly white and the fluorites do not fluoresce. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11934 and acquired from Christian Weise in Spring, 1989. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The isolated scheelites (cluster is 1.2 cm) with fluorite on one side are noteworthy and remarkable. Classic, showy and rich old-time combination material.
