Item Description

Analcime specimens are RARE from the historic mines at St Andreasberg. A sculptural parallel-growth pair of gemmy and lustrous complex calcite rhombs is aesthetically set on the matrix covered with small calcites. The SURPRISE is on the base - sparkly, tiny sharp gem colorless analcime trapezohedrons, to 2 mm, are peppered on the matrix. Pink calcite fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5438 and acquired in the late 1960s. Her label was lost in the move. Kay assembled an important suite of classics and rarities from this famed district. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). See the Mineralogical Record St. Andreasberg Special Issue, May-June, 2017, Vol. 48, No. 3. The is piece undoubtedly dates to the 1800s, as the last mine closed in 1910. Excellent and rare combination analcime and calcitge from this famed locale.
