Item Description

Superb old-time gem sphene from the famous Ziller Valley of Austia. A glassy, lustrous crystal is yellowish-green and has a classic twinned face. Specimens of this quality are uncommon from any Austrian locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 10608 and acquired at the 1985 Tucson Show. Previously in the Krantz Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). An exceptional thumbnail and a must for the species, Alpine or Austrian collector.
